DESCRIPTION
Come out and run or walk for the children who can't. Tender Hearts, Inc. is running and walking to support its mission of helping medically fragile children have a better quality of life.

All Tender Hearts 5K participants will receive a hand towel

The relief and happiness this program provides is not quantifiable. A study done by the Harvard Public School of Health shows that “toxic stress has harmful effects on the brain and other organ systems”.

The study further went on to show that things such as hopefulness, optimism, and being surrounded by a supportive network of positive family and friends also greatly contributed to increased health.

Each year many school aged patients spend a significant amount of time in the hospital. Each year, our school program teachers provide more than 3,000 hours of instruction in the hospital. For many patients, being absent from school also effects the other children in the classroom. “Buddy” is a bear that wears a patient designed t-shirt, has a backpack with a journal and information for the teacher. “Buddy” sits in the desk of the child who is in the hospital as a reminder that their classmate is still a part of their school and hopes to return soon.

This January, Tender Hearts and Child Life Program launched its first Buddy Bear delivery.
