Seven Things You Don't Know About Your Child's Digital Life

FREE e-book explores the potential threats lurking online for children
This free resource will help parents and families learn more about how children and teens are spending their time online and the potential threats therein.

According to a 2018 survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, 95% of children 13 to 17 years old report having access to a smartphone, and 45% of that same group claim to be “online constantly.” A recent New York Times investigation into online gaming found horrific examples of child predators luring and grooming children through online gaming platforms. Many parents are surprised to learn that four in ten online gamers are over the age of 35.

The e-book covers seven areas of online safety that parents may not be aware of: cyberbullying, privacy, online gaming, online “friends,” secret accounts, oversharing, and access to pornography.

Additionally, the e-book includes a list of fifteen apps that law enforcement suggests parents are aware of, provides tips on talking to children about sexting, and an Electronic Device Agreement which may help parents and children better define boundaries and expectations pertaining to usage of Internet-enabled devices like smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles.

Our Mission ~ We believe that child abuse can be prevented through effectively educating adults and children, developing the next generation of child welfare professionals and strengthening child protection laws around the country.
  • We believe, as Beau did, that no child should be threatened by a predator – either an adult or a peer – and that child abuse is preventable.
  • We believe the best way to prevent child abuse is to educate adults and children. 6 in 10 victims never report their abuse.
  • We believe the time is now to identify and train the next generation of child welfare professionals. 6,500 adults trained in Stewards of Children.
  • We believe strengthening national child protection laws is an urgent, attainable goal. 16 partners in our Shield of Protection Initiative.
Beau believed in our better angels. He knew the first lines of defense for a child who is bullied are that child’s peers. He knew every child was capable of courage, but that courage without confidence does not inspire action. We will work in schools to teach children skills and to give them tools and procedures that result in the confidence to report, and stop, bullying.
“We have seen the progress that can be made when a society commits to shining a bright light on a crime like domestic violence, and we are seeing the beginning of what can be accomplished if we continue shining that bright light on child abuse. As adults, we have a legal and moral obligation to stand up and speak out for children who are being abused. These children cannot speak for themselves.” — Beau Biden
