David was employed by the Coatesville Veterans Affair Medical Center; David was heartbroken when he learned that some of the Veterans he served were fighting homelessness and didn’t have things that he felt were essential, like underwear, socks and T-shirts.

David told his family that if he had the money he would buy every Veteran at the medical center a pair of underwear. On May 22, 2010 when we should have been celebrating David’s 21st birthday we, instead, celebrated his short life by having a cook out at our home.

We invited all of David's family and friends to the house and asked them to bring a pair of underwear to donate to the Coatesville VA in honor of David's wish. 150 people showed up at our home, we ran out of hamburgers but we collected over 4,000 items to donate. The memorial celebration was so successful that we felt we needed to do something more; this was the conception of the Annual David's Drive 831 Underwear Drive.

Each year in the month of May, around the date of David's birthday, we hold at cook out at our home and collect new underwear, socks and T-shirts.
