“Why United Way of Delaware?”
We’re often asked this question. After all, why donate to an umbrella organization such as United Way of Delaware (UWDE) when you can support individual charities?
The answer: Positive change happens faster when we work together. At UWDE, we carefully vet and unite nonprofit organizations and local resources to accelerate community impact and help people most in need. Our partners also include social services agencies, academic groups, business, government, and concerned citizens. United, we can affect positive, long-lasting solutions in the First State.

“Who Does United Way Help?”
UWDE serves all of Delaware, with a mission to combat poverty and advance the common good. We especially focus on Delaware’s 8 Promise Communities—the most vulnerable communities in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. They struggle with intergenerational poverty, lack of affordable housing, and limited local employment opportunities. With our community partners, we’re developing creative, long-term solutions to help children and families thrive.

“How Does UWDE Help?”
UWDE serves Delaware’s most vulnerable communities services and programs in:
  • Early Education Literacy. This is critical for a child’s long-term success. A key mission is to ensure children (birth through age 8) are properly prepared to achieve academic success and reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade.
  • College and Career Readiness. We help adolescents acquire and develop positive personal assets to make better decisions and have the necessary resources for academic and career success.
  • Financial Stability and Empowerment. We offer programs that help individuals and families get back on their feet, plan for the future and achieve their financial goals.
Our programs and initiatives include:
  • My Very Own Library
  • Help Me Grow
  • Step On It
  • $tand By Me
  • Latino Unidos
  • PRIDE Council
  • Women United
  • Delaware 2-1-1
These are just a few. We have something for everyone who needs help in Delaware!
