CURRENT NEWS

5th Anniversary Benefit

Since 2014, Coded by Kids has used project-based learning and mentorship to prepare underserved students ages 8 to 18 years old to be the innovation leaders of the future. Starting with just one teacher, with one student, in one rec center, five years later we have reached 750+ students through 1000+ classes.

Please join us at a cocktail reception as we celebrate our growth and accomplishments over the past five years. We are commemorating this milestone by also recognizing key supporters that have helped make our journey possible.

Awards and recipients include:

  • Champion Award - Presented to an individual who has advocated for Coded by Kids and contributed to our growth presented to Philadelphia City Councilman At-Large Allan Domb
  • Impact Award - Presented to a volunteer individual or company that has had a positive impact on our students or organization presented to Mjumbe Poe
  • Amplify Award - Presented to organization or partner that has allowed us to reach more students presented to the Philadelphia School District

CbK’s Mission: Developing the next generation of tech leaders

Coded by Kids uses project-based education and mentorship to equip underserved and underrepresented youth with the skills and support needed to succeed in a tech-driven society. Our vision is to give every child equal access to the education and mentorship they need to become the leaders in the tech industry. We are working to ensure that our community is as vibrant, diverse, and hopeful as our future vision for the tech industry.

Why It Matters
Just 10% of employees across some of the largest and top-grossing tech companies are Black or Latinx. In our hometown of Philadelphia, that number is even lower--just 6% of all tech employees come from underrepresented groups. Coded by Kids is working to make sure every student is aware of the opportunities in tech and has the skills to pursue those opportunities. By making tech education accessible to all students, we can transform the future of the tech industry.

Our Programs
Currently, Coded by Kids runs programming in over 20 locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Our two main programs are:

CommonSpace: Our CommonSpace programs are FREE, high-quality tech education programs that are run in community centers. Programming is open to kids ages 8-18 and no prior coding experience is necessary. With the help of instructors and mentors, CommonSpace students create websites, games, and animations that excite and inspire them.
Create & Learn: Coded by Kids takes a rigorous approach to tech education that raises the bar to industry level. Our Create and Learn programs are delivered at schools or nonprofits and use a dynamic project-based curriculum taught by experienced instructors who make complex technical concepts engaging and relevant to students in 3rd-12th grade
