HISTORY
Bishop Shanahan's rich legacy can be traced to the Christian values and academic excellence first nurtured in St. Agnes Parish High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Saint Agnes High School was established in 1909 through the efforts of Monsignor Henry C. Schuyler. From 1909 until 1956, the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (I.H.M.) administered and staffed the high school until it became necessary to secure a larger property to accommodate the growing Catholic enrollment.
Opportunities
There are many opportunities for Shanahan students to explore their passions and interests. DECA (business club), Respect Life Club, Shanaviews (school newspaper), Channel 2 Mornings News, and Forensics Team are just a few examples of the 42 clubs and activities, and 21 different sports teams. There is something for everyone at BSHS.
The student experience is uniquely designed for each individual, yet united by the commitment to Christ-Centered values. In addition to celebrating the Catholic faith through school-wide masses and the opportunity for confession, all are welcome to attend daily mass in the chapel and the exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament each Friday. Students put their faith in action by participating in meaningful community service projects that address social issues. We are confident that the students and alumni of Bishop Shanahan High School make the world a better place.
