“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference.” —Steve Jobs, Stanford University Commencement Speech, 2005.
As we start a new fiscal year, I tried to write a message about the year ahead. Yet after writing what seemed to be a lackluster review of upcoming events, I reconsidered my continued desire to look back. As Steve Jobs poetically illustrates, our understanding of our past and it’s connections, lets us leap ahead to the future, even when we don’t quite know where we are going. We must have the faith to know our journey is the right one for us.
In last month’s message, I shared how Dr. Joe Vitale and Dr. Aguida Atkinson connected my dots to the AAP. But my story has many other dots too. I’ll share some of those connections and how they will help me lead our chapter to new and exciting places over the next year.
