Educational Programs
Do The Right Thing 4LIFE (DTRT4L): for African-American men and women of any HIV/AIDS status. Takes place in local barbershops and beauty salons. Call AIDS Delaware for more information.
Delaware Teen Idol: Delaware’s own talent show featuring original works of rap, music, spoken word, poetry, and skits. Teens audition throughout each summer for a chance to compete in the finals in August. Original works are to be focused on topics such as HIV/AIDS awareness, drug and alcohol prevention, sexual abuse, fatherhood, and other topics today’s teens face. Delaware Teen Idol partners with several local organizations, such as Duffy’s Hope. The finals are hosted as part of Hollywood Invades Delaware weekend.
Life After Idol: Many Voices, One Path. Life After Idol envisions a community where youth of different backgrounds, beliefs and experiences work together and share responsibility for improving their own lives and the lives of those around them. We seek a future where Delaware youth have the space to expand their creative voices to express themselves, understand one another, and affect change in today’s society. Life After Idol uses the gifts of dance, rap, poetry and theater to bring a message of HIV/AIDS education to students and youth at local schools and community centers. The materials are written by the group’s members and performed by them, developing leadership and peer educational skills as well as gaining professional development in the fine arts.
