What is Body Positivity?

News ~ Dec 16, 2019 19:36  pm
Body positivity refers to the assertion that all people deserve to have a positive body image, regardless of how society and popular culture view ideal shape, size, and appearance.

Some of the goals of the body positivity movement include:

-challenging how society views the body
-promoting the acceptance of all bodies
-helping people build confidence and acceptance of their own bodies
-addressing unrealistic body standards

Body positivity is not just about challenging how society views people based upon their physical size and shape, however. It also recognizes that judgments are often made based on race, gender, sexuality, and disability.

What does it mean to be Sober Curious?

News ~ Dec 16, 2019 19:33  pm
Do you often wonder what life would be like without alcohol? Do you use alcohol to overcome social anxiety? Do you wonder why alcohol is present at every event? Do you hate the all-or-nothing mentality that comes with ‘sobriety’? Maybe you don’t have to drink, but you often do and wish you didn’t. Sober curiosity might be for you.

According to Ruby Warrington, author of Sober Curious: The Blissful Sleep, Greater Focus, Limitless Presence, and Deep Connection Awaiting Us All on the Other Side of Alcohol, and founder of Club Söda, “[Being sober curious] means, literally, to choose to question, or get curious about, every impulse, invitation, and expectation to drink, versus mindlessly going along with the dominant drinking culture.”

5 Ways to Become more Emotionally Intelligent at Work

News ~ Dec 11, 2019 18:57  pm
Emotional intelligence, sometimes referred to as EQ ("emotional quotient"), refers to a person's ability to recognize, understand, manage, and reason with emotions. It is a critical ability when it comes to interpersonal communication—and a hot topic not only in psychology but in the business world.

The term itself was coined by psychologists in the 1990s, but its use quickly spread into other areas including business, education, and popular culture.

What Is Emotional Intelligence?
Psychologists Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer, two of the leading researchers on the topic, define emotional intelligence as the ability to recognize and understand emotions in oneself and others. This ability also involves utilizing this emotional understanding to make decisions, solve problems, and communicate with others.

5 Steps to Being More of an Optimist

If you find yourself expecting the worst and selling yourself short a little too much of the time, you can always increase your tendency toward optimism.

News ~ Dec 11, 2019 18:43  pm
Life is easier and generally more enjoyable if you're an optimist. Research shows that optimists enjoy many health and lifestyle benefits, including greater achievement, greater health, a sense of persistence toward goals, greater emotional health, increased longevity, and lower reactivity to stress. Because of this, optimists tend to be happier overall. Optimism is measured by your explanatory style, or how you define events. You're halfway there if you can learn to define positive events in the following three ways:

1.Positive events occurred because of something you did.

2.Positive events are a sign of more good things to come.

Getting Started With Guided Sleep Meditation

The benefits of sleep meditation

News ~ Dec 02, 2019 16:55  pm
Guided sleep meditation is a method for helping you to let go of worrying thoughts and relax your body before bed. Like other forms of meditation, this practice involves moving your focus away from your mind to sensations in your body. Regular practice of guided sleep meditation has been shown to improve sleep, meaning that this method is an important strategy that you can use to help reduce problems falling and staying asleep.

According to the American Sleep Association, around 30 percent of adults have short-term problems with insomnia, and about 10 percent have chronic difficulties with falling and/or staying asleep. What's more, around a third of adults report typically getting less than 7 hours of sleep per night. Given that adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep to function best, and teenagers need even more (8 to 10 hours), it's not surprising that methods for improving sleep are becoming more well-known.

Better sleep can contribute to lowering stress and an improved immune system. However, achieving restful sleep can be hard if you are battling stress and anxiety—it can be simply hard to quiet your mind.
