Choose Physical Therapy for SAFE pain management

#ChoosePT

News ~ Nov 10, 2019 23:59  pm
No one wants to live in pain. But no one should put their health at risk in an effort to be pain free.

Doctor-prescribed opioids are appropriate in some cases, but they just mask the pain—and opioid risks include depression, overdose, and addiction, plus withdrawal symptoms when stopping use.

That's why the CDC recommends safer alternatives like physical therapy to manage pain.

Physical therapists treat pain through movement, hands-on care, and patient education—and by increasing physical activity you can also reduce your risk of other chronic diseases.

Pain is personal, but treating pain takes teamwork.

When it comes to your health, you have a choice. Choose more movement and better health. Choose physical therapy!

Hey DPTA members, we need your input!

News ~ Jul 12, 2019 11:24  am
Your Chapter delegates are getting ready for the House of Delegates in Chicago June 8-10 and need your input on motions that will be voted on.

The House of Delegates (House) is an APTA policy-making body comprised of voting chapter delegates, non-voting delegates (the Board of Directors and section, assembly, and PTA Caucus delegates), and consultants.

The House meets annually for 3 successive days each spring, during which time delegates make decisions on issues that may have far-reaching implications for the association and for the profession of physical therapy.

The following is an example of a motion that will be voted on this year:

RC 62-19 ADOPT: NALOXONE AVAILABILITY WHERE PHYSICAL THERAPIST SERVICES ARE PROVIDED

That the following be adopted:

NALOXONE AVAILABILITY WHERE PHYSICAL THERAPIST SERVICES ARE PROVIDED

The American Physical Therapy Association supports physical therapy services having naloxone accessible to be administered to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose occurring on or around locations where physical therapist services are provided, in accordance with recommendations from the Surgeon General of the United States.

What are your thoughts on this motion?

Please respond to info@dptaonline.com

Here is a link to the other motions that will be voted on.  Your input is always appreciated
