Cultures Come Together at Boy Scouts Crossover Ceremony in Easton

News ~ Mar 21, 2019 12:58  pm
EASTON, Md.- An important moment in every Scouts journey. On Tuesday, 17 total Cub Scouts crossed over into Scouts BSA Troop 190 in Easton, Maryland.

"It's a symbolic moment of the moving into their new project," says Matthew Peters, leader of Pack 003 of Easton.

For Peters and his cubs, the occasion is even more special, most of them are Spanish-speaking children of immigrants.

The project started as a partnership with the Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center in 2012 and now has flourished.

"We get to explore the Delmarva peninsula more learning about the traditions and culture here, like nature and camping," says Peters.

Peters says the program is an incredible way to connect the culture of the Eastern shore with newcomer families.

"I love being a scout because we get to do things other kids can't do," says Blas Santos, an 11-year-old who has been part of the program since second grade.

Countries represented include Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, and Vietnam and some of the boys have only been in America a few years.

But, the program also offers an opportunity for parents to also feel welcome and to grow with their children. Ana Argueta, is one of the mothers who helps with the pack, she says she's learning as much as her son is.

"We don't get these opportunities in our country, it's great for parents," says Argueta.

Night at the Museum!

Only 3 days left to register!!!

News ~ Mar 19, 2019 17:30  pm
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM is quickly approaching. NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM is being held at the DELMARVA Discovery Museum in Pocomoke City, Maryland on February 23-24.

We will get to meet the resident otters, Mac and Tuck, at the Wally River Gordon River Otter Exhibit, learn about horseshoe crabs at the touch pools, immerse ourselves in the history and culture of the Native Americans, and become Nature Detectives! Of course, as the name of the program implies, we will spend the night sleeping in the museum after we close the night out with the perfect movie, Night at the Museum.

You can register for this program HERE. Registration closes on February 15 at 11:55pm. We are limited to 100 participants.

You may register to attend as a den, pack, or family. Please ensure that dens and packs have adequate adult leadership for the number of Scouts attending. All participants will need a sleeping bag, pillow, pajamas, and a change of clothes for the next day. We will be sleeping on the floor in assigned areas throughout the museum.
